Introduction

Modern families often live far apart, and despite technology’s reach, emotional distance can grow over time. Family Social Connect set out to bridge that gap — creating a secure, intimate space for families to record, relive, and share their life stories through digital “StoryBooks.”

The client wanted to build a private family network focused on emotional connection — not social comparison. The app needed to combine AI-assisted storytelling, subscription-based access, and a frictionless user experience while ensuring privacy and scalability.

Core goals included:

Create an easy-to-use app for sharing stories and media privately with family groups.
Personalize prompts using AI to inspire meaningful storytelling.
Enable family subscription plans with shared access for up to five members.

The Challenge

Developing Family Social Connect required solving multiple complex challenges:

Seamless Family Subscriptions: Enabling shared plans for up to five users with dynamic member management.
Secure Sharing & Privacy: Preventing the misuse of invite codes and the sharing of personal data.
Engagement through AI Prompts: Default prompts weren’t engaging enough, requiring personalized, contextual AI generation.
Payment Transition: Migrating from Apple In-App Purchase to Stripe while maintaining existing user subscriptions.
Cross-System Synchronization: Ensuring consistent payment data and subscription sync between the mobile app and the upcoming web version.

Our Approach

7Span developed Family Social Connect as a native iOS application backed by a robust AWS-powered backend, combining emotional storytelling with reliable tech execution.

Private Family Network

Users create “Kin Groups,” invite members via secure deep links, and share stories, images, and videos privately within the group.

AI-Powered Echo System

Integrated OpenAI and Knowledge Graph to deliver personalized daily prompts (“Echoes”), adapting to each user’s profile, relationships, and previous stories.

Flexible Family Subscriptions

Implemented multi-user subscription plans using Stripe, enabling members to be added or removed dynamically.

Secure Authentication & SSO

Used AWS Cognito for single sign-on across the mobile and future web app, ensuring security and scalability.

Customer Engagement Analytics

Integrated Customer.io and Mixpanel for behavior tracking, notifications, and in-app messages to drive retention and engagement.
